Today, there’s a significantly increasing number of countries that are becoming more aware of their environment. Well, that’s a green flag! Perhaps, if the trees, plants, and animals could only understand our language, imagine their dancing and singing as a celebration of the conscious actions that humanity is now doing towards the environment. With these increasing eco-friendly actions around the world, the frequent appearance of labels like eco, bio, and organic in the market is definitely in its demand.
So, how well do we understand the difference between the 3 labels? Let us sort it out below:
Eco
An eco-label guarantees the consumer that the commodity is made with the set of standards which are controlled and adapted to produce it with a very little or harmless impact on nature. Eco-products are usually non-food, whereas, if this label is used for a food product, it mainly refers to a certain procedure like minimising or avoiding the use of pesticides or fertilisers on animals or plants. Other requirements could be; recycling or zero waste policy, sustainable production, ingredients from natural origin, and other standards depending on a country’s protocol in regards to eco-friendly production. To sum it up, eco-labels come with a human set of standards for the production of any product to be beneficial both to the people and the environment.
Bio
Bio means life. Any product produced by a living being, be it plants or animals, as long as it is NOT genetically modified, can fall under this category. To make it less confusing as compared with the organic label, at some productions of a specific product, whether a special additive is added or not, as long as it cannot affect the original genes of the source, it can still be considered as bio. But hey! The said case is very rare to happen. Usually, when a chemical is added to raw material, there’s a higher chance that the genes will genetically be altered. And just to add a keynote, where an eco label is commonly seen on non-food products, a bio label is mainly found on food products.
Organic
Organic products are STRICTLY produced in the absence of pesticides, fertilisers, or any chemicals used in farming crops or animals. It simply means that there is no foreign substance added to the product while it is being processed. What it carries is what it will offer. Health-conscious individuals are really into this organic food or cosmetics since they value the nutrients that it naturally contains. Fresh from nature! Of course, there is only one vitamin that organic products, which mainly refer to plant-based foods, cannot give, and that is vitamin B12. An individual who undergoes an organic diet takes clinically produced supplements for B12 to complete their system.
Now that we better understand the 3 labels for any products or services mentioned above, we can better choose what’s best for us and what we want for our bodies. All labels are created to be beneficial for nature and us, people. If we opt to consume the eco, bio, and organic, that’s pretty cool for your health as well as with your surroundings.
